Understanding and Organizing Subject Matter for Student Learning
Curriculum Design
Utilizing the Understanding by Design, I created the following ELA unit. It is a novel study that asks students to consider the big idea: what does it mean to “find courage?”
Standards-Aligned Lesson Planning
This was a social studies lesson that was part of a longer unit designed to help students understand the importance of individual action and how individual people can make a difference. This lesson exhibits how I can demonstrate subject matter knowledge that aligns with the state curriculum frameworks.
Phases of Reading Brochure
This brochure was created as a meaningful tool to give parents to help them understand the stages of reading their child will go through and how they can support their child’s growth in reading. The brochure includes helpful descriptions of each stage, how reading skills are being developed, and helpful strategies they can use for their child in each stage. My favorite strategy is to read together — it is the strategy that works across all the stages!
